Just months before the Vinfast VF7 launches in India, the all-electric SUV has been spied in Mumbai on a flatbed. The VF7 SUV will be the Vietnamese EV maker’s first model for India, with prices expected to be announced around this year’s festive season.

The VF7 spied in Mumbai is finished in the brand’s Jet Black paint shade – the VinFast website also lists Brahimny White, Crimson Red and Neptune Grey finishes – and shows the front-end, the alloys wheels and tyres, and the front door. Compared to the VF7 showcased at Auto Expo 2025 – which had the Crimson Red finish, 20-inch alloy wheels and low profile Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres – the spied model has new-design 19-inch alloys shod in 245/50 R19 Apollo Aspire tyres. The smaller wheels make sense for the India-spec model as most international carmakers do the same for our market in the interest of ride quality.

Some features can also be indentified from the VF7 spy shots. A camera-based ADAS suite can be seen, along with a camera on the wing mirror, suggesting a 360-degree camera. While the upper edge of a large touchscreen infotainment unit can be seen, it is unclear if this is the larger 15-inch unit or the smaller 12.9-inch one.

International markets get two variants – Eco and Plus – though both are powered by the same 75.3kWh battery pack. The VF7 Eco gets a single 204hp and 310Nm of torque mounted on the front axle, while the Plus has a dual-motor setup making a total of 354hp and 500Nm. VinFast claims a WLTP range of 450km for the Eco and 431km for the Plus.

When it arrives around October this year, the VinFast VF7 is likely to rival the BYD Atto 3. The BYD SUV is currently priced between Rs 24.99 lakh and Rs 33.99 lakh, and comes with either a 49.92kWh battery (with 468km ARAI range) or a 60.48kWh battery (with 521km ARAI range). That the VF7 is being locally assembled at the brand’s new plant in Tamil Nadu should help VinFast price the e-SUV in the Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh region. The brand is also evaluating a battery leasing option that will bring the initial cost down, similar to MG Motor India's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental scheme.
